Ingenic Semiconductor

  • Ingenic Semiconductor is a leading fabless technology company founded in 2005 and is based in Beijing, China.
Ingenic designs the XBurst CPU, an ultra low power and high performance implementation of the MIPS32 architecture.
XBurst has been integrated into numerous mobile and consumer system-on-chip (SoC) solutions, the companies newest
products focus on the wearables and consumer devices markets.

Chipsets history

  • The JZ47xx series SoC's, provide great advantages in terms of power consumption, multimedia capabilities and cost.
JZ47xx has been extensively used in markets including biometrics, e-education, portable media player, e-reader
and mobile internet devices since its production began in 2006.
  • The Mxxx series SoC's are targeted at the emerging wearables and smart devices market. They are designed to meet
the critical requirements of ultra-low power consumption, small form-factor with no compromise on performance.
With these SoC's, Ingenic has delivered solutions including Smart Watch and Smart Glass platforms to its customers,
helping them deliver their products to market in a shorter amount of time.

Ingenic chipsets

  • XBurst All the SoCs of Ingenic have a Xburst core. Its instruction set is compatible with
MIPS32 and it has a SIMD instruction set to accelerate the speed of video codec algorithm.
  • JZ4720 is a low cost multimedia application processor targeting for mobile devices like MP4, electronic dictionary.
  • JZ4730 is a multimedia application processor targeting for mobile and general embedded devices.
Incorporating the XBurst CPU core based on leading micro-architecture technology, this processor
provides high integration, high performance and low power consumption solutions for embedded devices.
Many MP4 players made in China use JZ4730.
  • JZ4740 is a multimedia application processor targeting for mobile devices like smart-phones, PMP and GPS.
Incorporating the XBurst CPU core based on leading micro-architecture technology, this processor provides
high integration, high performance and low power consumption solutions for embedded devices.
The JZ4740 has upstream kernel support.
  • JZ4755 is a multimedia SOC with high performance and price ratio, targeting for low end PMP like portable product.
JZ4755 is powered by Ingenic innovative XBurst CPU core up to 360MHz, supporting multi-format decoding at 720P
resolution, and equipped with a rich set of on-chip peripherals.
This SoC is used in the RZX-50.
  • JZ4770. The JZ4770 SoC has a 1GHz single XBurst core, with 32K L1 and 256K L2. The JZ4770 is used in a number
of Android MIPS based platforms, such as the Ainol Novo 7 tablets, and the GCW Zero open source gaming platform.
  • JZ4780. The JZ4780 is a MIPS32r2 based SoC that has dual 1.2GHz XBurst cores. It has 64KB L1 per core,
and a shared 512KB L2. The SoC also contains hardware video decoders, a cryto engine and an SGX540 GPU.
This SoC is targeted primarily at mobile devices like Philips T7+ PI3800.
Also MIPS Creator CI20 is based in the JZ4780.
